INTRODUCTION

The Past

This Divisional secretariat has Opened on 13th Day of October 1975 as an office for Additional Goverment agent.15 Gramaniladhari Divisions has been administrated by the office at that time and established at Sunahatha Pond now known as Pokunu Thuna (Triple Ponds). MR.W.N.wijewardhana was the first Additional government Agent for this division.early,this division was administrated by the District kachcheri,Anuradhapura. in 1985,the office has reached at the present location,Pandulagama as a concept of "Udagam" which was formed by the late president,Hon.Ranasinghe premadasa.

The Present.

The extent of this division is 375 Sq.kms and it has reserved 23479 hectares for both residence and cultivation purposes.there are 40 Grama Niladhari divisions with186 hamlots.

General Overview.

The annual temperature level of this division  is continuing between 20-30 celsius and the rate of annual rainfall is between 186-200 mm.a high remperature is available from March to August and with the begining of Monsoon wind,it can be seen the rainy period from mid of September to first half of March.the number of population is 69551 out of 20758 number of  families.the main cultivation is paddy and additional crops also are here seen alternatively.

Historical Back Ground

This division can be identitified as Zenith of the world buddhist's.because of establishing number of unequaled historical places than other Divisional secretariats in Sri lanka.Atmasthana with the glorious stupa of ''Ruwanweli" and also the wondered structural possition of Ruwanweli,Mirisaweti and Jethawana which is equalled to Orion nebula in the space,proves the unequalness without any of argument.Wessagiriya and Ranmasu uyana makes so well the figure of that identitty of a civilization amazed the world where never...
